1Unit IIColumbia Southern UniversityFire Protection Technology MOS 5301Fire Prevention TechnologyThe fire suppression system included a wet sprinkler system with spottype heat detectors placed between steel beams throughout the facility(Columbia Southern University [CSU] n.d.). The water pressure delivered to the
2sprinkler system was delivered by a pump that was certified to meet therequirements for materials stored in the warehouse at the time of design andinstallation. The system was not equipped with any back-up mechanism in theevent a primary system failure and passive forms of fire protection were notconsidered in the original system design. My recommendations for passive fire protection in the facility include theapplication of steel beam insulation to ensure structural integrity and limit theradiant heat traveling to the materials stored on the higher shelves and theaddition of fire-resistant rooms for flammable material storage to slow thespread of fire. The size and volume of the warehouse my recommendations for active fireprotection include the use of a dry chemical suppression system with Sodium
