EXPERIENTIAL AND NARRATIVE FAMILY THERAPY2Introduction In group and family therapy there are many different counseling styles. This assignment will summarize the key points of experiential and narrative therapy styles. Both styles will be compared to each other focusing on their strengths and weaknesses. Experiential family therapy According to Mahrer (2001), Experiential therapy is a therapeutic technique that uses role-playing, acting, props, arts and crafts, music, animal care, or guided imagery to recreate feelings from past interactions with others. With the use of these tools, the client is able to look within and pinpoint emotions and what they correlate to. The therapist facilitates dealing with emotions deep down within the client.
