Name : Joseph “Fitz” Maro Lab Partners : Bryan Keelon and Laura Taylor Title: Comparison of the Energy Content of Fuels Date: November 29, 2007 I hereby declare upon my word of honor that I have neither given nor received unauthorized help on this work. Abstract : - In this lab we learned how a modern pH meter works, how to calibrate it, and how to make reliable measurements. We measured the pHs of a variety of substances in water, including some pure chemicals, a rain water sample, and various foods and household products. We also had the opportunity to use the pH indicator strips. -Our results were reasonably accurate for the situation and limited materials that we were working with. Specifically we found that the pHs of Arm and Hammer, and the ammonia to be 10, which is what I expected the results to be. We also saw a pH decrease as the concentration of HCl went up. Keywords: There were no formal keywords for this lab that we haven’t already learned or covered in previous labs.
