Homework 1 EE 597: Wireless Networks (Spring 2013) Due: Feb 7, 2013 1. (Decibel practice) a) Write the following in dB : (use log 10 2=0.3 if needed) 1000 20 (1000/20) 400 10 (400*10) b) Covert the following powers into dBm: 1W 1e-10W 1 dBW c) x is 20dB, calculate the following in dB: y=x 2 y=1/x y = 2x 2. (Outage probability for Rayleigh fading) a) Assume a Rayleigh fading channel with the average signal power Pr = -80 dBm. What are the outage probabilities of this channel relative to the received power thresholds 90 and -100 dBm? b) Assume an application that requires a power outage probability of 1% for the threshold Po = 80 dBm, For Rayleigh fading, what value of the average signal power is required? 3. (Path loss and Log Normal Shadowing/Fading) Consider the following table showing path-loss measurements at different distances: Distance from Transmitter Pr / Pt 5m -60dB 25m -80dB 65m -105dB 110m -115dB 400m -135dB 1000m -150dB a) Find the best fit parameters of a simplified path-loss model plus log-normal shadowing that best fits the above data. b) Predict the path loss at 2km based on this model.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
