In the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA), it is important to collect and rely on data during the assessment process to not only avoid potential biases, but also to ensure that our interventions are ethical and guided by empirical evidence. By collecting data from conducting our own direct or functional assessments that are guided by information reported by significant others, we can ensure that we have objective data resulting from observable contingencies that can guide effective interventions. With the collection of data, we can monitor the skill acquisition and behavior reduction, ensuring that our interventions are in line with at least three of the seven dimensions of ABA, effective, behavioral, and analytic.
