1 In the middle of the 2007 fall semester , Dr . Kevin Jacques spoke to the World Cultures classes about the Qur’an . Dr . Jacques is from the Department of Religious Studies at Indiana University . He obtained his PhD in Religious studies from Emory University . Because he was speaking to a large audience , his presentation was given in Wheeler Concert Hall . He lectured after the readings of the Qur’an were assigned to the classes , and such a time was chosen in order to clear up any major confusions applying to the text . His thesis was revealed quite early in his presentation; it was his contention that the Qur’an is diverse . He did a very good job keeping his audience attracted; thus , his presentation was very effective . His willingness to demonstrate prayers , songs, and other rituals kept the audience interested . His lecture was interesting , informative , and very efficient . Dr . Jacques made many valid points about the Qur’an . Although he spoke on many aspects , three in particular seemed to stand out . The first of his first major points was that in the Qur’an , it is suggested that people cannot speak directly with God, because God is so powerful and mighty , that even being in his presence is enough to make a mortal explode .
