They are remarkable because of the individuality of each of them and the aura that lifts them above the greyness of everyday life.Since it is only in the last two decades that it has become clear how important special events can be, their study is still ongoing and their theory continues to evolve. That is why there are many meanings, the concepts and theoretical claims ofwhich coincide or complement each other.According to Professor Joe Goldblatt of the George Washington School of Business and Public Administration, "special events are a unique moment in time filled with ceremonies and rituals to meet specific needs." Global events are made up of different components. That is why they have an influence on many spheres of public life and they are intertwined with various interests. In general, it is possible to perceive the importance of special events in four ways - from the point of view of tourists, organisers, city and tourism.The Olympic Games are undoubtedly among many elite global sporting events. By Preuss (2000), facilitating the Olympics provides tangible and intangible rewards to the country within a seven-year interval that would otherwise take more than several decades.
