Thuong Tran ESOL 0354 Ms. Stella Adedje August 8, 2020 Argument Essay Mask Wearing Since a pandemic named COVID 19 broke out, many methods have been applied to prevent this dangerous pandemic. The American Government issued a blockade order to limit the spread. The Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention gave warning and instructions on how to prevent epidemics. Besides washing hands with soap and keeping social distance, mask- wearing is an issue that creates arguments in society. Many people agree that wearing masks is an efficient method, while there are people who refuse this recommendation. A question is asked if mask wearing during this pandemic should be made an enforceable law in America today. For three reasons, mask wearing should be made a rule in this situation. The first reason why mask wearing should be a law is that it will prevent the spreading of the pandemic. It is a simple personal action to prevent the infection. The masks are the veils that directly prevent the contact with the viruses through mouths and noses. Due to that thing, the way of viruses go to the lungs is blocked. It could be good if people combine mask wearing and not touching the mouths and noses to prevent the entry of viruses into external respiratory organs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Masks are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other
people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice.” Nina Bai, a researcher, shows that countries, in which people are familiar with masks and the Governments that support wearing masks have lower rates of COVID 19 deaths, such as Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, and Singapore. Due to its benefits, wearing masks plays a large role in the community health protection. Secondly, mask wearing must be enforced by the law because it builds unity in communities. Although the CDC has recommended wearing masks, there are still many people who don’t use them just because it is not required by law. Although wearing masks protects for health, many people still refuse it. Probably, wearing masks is a new thing for them; they have not done that before. They might think that wearing a mask is an entanglement or hiding of their identities. Therefore, they will not wear a mask as long as it is not a requirement. As a result, people who accept wearing masks will be judged that they fear death or like to show off. Once the wearing of masks is made an enforceable law, people will implement it without worrying about others’ judgment. Once the mask wearing is made as a law, social communities will become more united in their activities. Therefore, enforceable masks wearing becomes a factor in the unity of disease prevention.
