Causes of the Great Depression 07/04/2008 11:07:00 Created Equal Causes (Text book):  No welfare state (safety net or bare minimum of living to all Americans) European Economy-begin to fail along with those in America American Business Practices Credit and wealth Global Scale More Complex Reasons:  o Economic Theories were outdated Laissez-Faire  Balanced budget-don’t spend what you don’t have  Supply creates demand-“if you build it they will buy”  (But they didn’t)-Instead of moving the excessive goods  and continuing production jobs were cut because no new  products were needed o International Economies US passes protective tariffs, Europe follows; International Trade  comes a halt Pre WWI Germany was a hub in the wheel of European  Economy, the forced reparations upon Germany cuts out their
