Garrett Winand Hi my name is garrett winand and I will be telling you about the ever growing problem of food allergies in todays society, not only in the youth of America but the adult community as well. Today some of the most common food allergies are with milk, egg, soy, wheat, peanut, tree nut, fish, and shellfish, now these are by no means the only allergies out there but they are the more common ones that people are likely to see in their daily life. Many people out there are ignorant to what a food allergy is, a food allergy is a persons immune systems response to a food that the individuals body believes to be harmful. The symptoms of these different allergys can affect the respiratory system, the digestive system, skin, or cardiovascular system. It is estimated that about 12 million Americans suffer from true food allergies. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include tingling in the mouth, swelling of the throat, difficulty breathing, hives, vomiting, stomach cramps, a drop of blood pressure, loss of consciousness or even death. These symptoms can occur anywhere from within minutes to two hours
