Experimental Equipment: Temperature probe Ice Salt Ethylene glycol Methyl alcohol Clamp Ring stand In part one of this experiment an ice bath was made using a 400 mL beaker. 25 mL of water, 1 cup of ice, and 5 spoonfuls of salt were added to the beaker. Then a test tube was obtained and 5 mL of water was poured into it. The test tube was put on a clamp, which attached to a ring stand to make sure the tube was constantly in an upright position. The Logger Pro program was opened and a temperature probe was placed in the test tube. The collect button was clicked and the test tube with its clamp was lowered into the ice bath. The change in temperature was graphed. For ten minutes the liquid in the test tube needed to be stirred, but for the last five minutes of data collection the solution was not stirred anymore and allowed to crystallize. The freezing temperature of water was obtained. After that, the test tube was held right above the ice bath so that it was in room temperature, and it sat like that for twelve minutes while data was collected.
