Process To develop scatterplots of math achievement and grades : First: click on “folder” icon on taskbar in SPSS select “Alternative hsbdataB.sav” file and click on “ok” to input all the data in SPSS and get access to Variable View screen. Second: click on Graphs at Variable View screen Legacy Dialogs Scatter/Dot . Third: Click on Simple Scatter Define move dependent variable match achievement to Y Axis and grades in h.s. to X Aixs. • Fourth: Click on Titles type Correlation of match achievement” in line 1 and “with high school grades” in line 2 Fifth: Click on Continue Ok , the output is in figure 9.1 a. Sixth: double click on scatterplot in output 9.1 a to get access to Chart Editor Seventh: click on fit line icon Properties window check Linear to add regression line to output 9.1 a. The same steps are followed to create scatterplot with regression line for variables of math achievement and mosaic. The output is displayed in 9.1 b. A quadratic regression line is added to output 9.1 b by clicking one Quadratic at Properties window in above mentioned step seven. A 6.1.b. Findings . Each circle in scatterplot chart represents one participant’s score on two variables. (Morgan et al., 2013). For the scatterplot for grades in h.s. in figure 9.1 a, r 2 is 0.25 and thus r 3 12/4/2020

For the scatterplot for mosaic pattern score in figure 9.1 b, r 2 is 0.05 and thus r is 0.21. It indicates weak positive association between math achievement and mosaic pattern score.
