Process Process 7.1, Cohen’s Kappa is used to check the interrater reliability coefficient of the variable ethnicity codes based on school records and ethnicity reported by the student. First: click on “folder” icon on taskbar in SPSS select “Alternative hsbdataB.sav” file and click on “ok” to input all the data in SPSS and get access to Variable View screen. Second: click on Analyze at Variable View screen Descriptive Statistics Crosstabs… . Third: Select ethnicity (ethnic) and move it Rows box and select ethnicity reported by students (ethnic 2) and move it to Columns box. According to the data in case processing summary table, among 75 participants, 71 students have valid value on both variables and 4 students have missing values. In crosstabulation table, the data along the diagonal of the box shows there are 65 (40+11+8+6) participants whose ethic identity codes in school records and in self-reports are in agreement. There are 6 participants whose ethic identity codes in school records and in self-reports are consistent. The symmetric measures box shows that the kappa value is .86.
