Shuyang Ma Lecture Jan 21 2013: -descriptive should reflect who we are -how to enable the represent each social group and whether they are represented in parliament (aboriginals, women-Sweden, ethnic minorities) -formalistic (how are we going to represent ourselves; must be chosen, may be biased through intimidation, media ect, is the processes ensure fair representation, more strict voter registration, choices are vital) -instrumental (how do they represent us-verb rather than adjectives) -delegate (electing a representative, so that our ridings are met) -trustee (work and deliberative work with reps there, freedom from the-Canada) deliberative process) Edmond Bark- “Looking out for the national’s interest…” -plebiscites (go to citizens and see what they say, sovergenity reference in Quebec, people is over law) -constitutive (constraint to how much we can ask for, they represent for us in which we must determine how they represent us)
