Shuyang Ma Lecture 28 2013: -pick a topic that’s current in news (PICK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE)-pick two models learned from last semester to compare -Two academic articles to input into the essay -Two pre reading assignments (completed together is 10 percent, marks are given for completion) -nice read (what the best college students do-bain) -Electoral system-they do not need the most amount of votes always form the government (diffused around the provincials-votes are very low, benefits those who represent regional locations)-measure regional/provincial, more difficult, -clicker questions now require a correct answer -proportional (45 votes; 45% of the parliamentary seats; easy to understand)-measure over the country (however, population may skew votes) therefore easier, %of votes=%of seats, votes not wasted, who to complain to (con), Lecture Jan 30 2013: -liberalism (new right) -social welfare system gives support to mothers -liberalism says if you can work you should work; otherwise you’re a bad citizen-universalism vs differences (some professions are limited due to race and money-run for office, have a right to parenty leaf-however who makes more is the one who stays home which on norm is women) -national vs. global (globalization-more on global decision, Canadian treaties)
