Shuyang Ma Lecture Mar 6 2013: -Chapter 19 Brodie question 2 on pg.262 -democracy in a global context possible? - -Post Cold War-the Soviet Union collapse (midst of collapse, how can it be explained) -contra power US and Canada were unable to come to a global democracy -increased ethic power -increase ecology threats to the global economy -Gulf Stream heated up the entire agriculture of Europe (stop the turning of motion-impact on fish, food ect.) -Kyoto Protocol (Canada does this by damaging the rest of the countries) -democracy prevent conflict: -established democracy have conflicts in the beginning in order to establish a non-conflict base -democratic of security (state way of providing safety) -work in global perspective: UN (only certain countries join, not all states are represented fairly, the International Criminal Court, no mechanism for countries who do not join) Globalization-global capital (business within borders become difficult) -trade agreements are not in interest of citizens, but of the corporations
