Schizophrenia - Split mind : splitting from reality - Delusion - Hallucinations - Disorganized speech or thought Characteristic symptoms - Delusions are disturbances in the content of thought o Common delusions: thought, feelings being controlled o Private thoughts are being broadcasted o Thoughts inserted into head - Hallucinations o Are disruptions in perceptions o Perceptions in the absences of external stimulus, no basis in reality o Most common are auditory - Disorganized speech: key feature in schizophrenia o Is the external manifestation of thoughts o Incoherence (new words) o Word salad o Communication is lost - Grossly Disorganized behavior o Disheveled, inappropriate sexual behavior o Unpredictability agitated o Decreased motor activity - Associated Features o Laughing for no apparent reason o Loss of interest in pleasure
