How come there has been an expansion in commercial store space? There has been an increasing amount of online shopping, so how do we still need physical locations? It adds to convenience; buying on the internet means you can’t try things on, touch them. It’s not the same thrill- shopping is an entertainment in itself; it’s a social experience- less so online. Encourage consumer spending in as many ways as possible. 75% of the economy is consumer spending. People like to buy things online, but return them in person. Primary motivation: to keep pushing product and the more venues there are to support consumption, the better. Compete to squeeze out other competition. Marketing is principally about exchanges and is based on the 4 P’s. Product, Price, Place, Promotion. Marketing Management Philosophies : Production, Sales, Market, Societal. Initially, marketing was about selling product. Eventually, evolved (in the ‘50’s) to become an academic topic. It’s not just about the producer, the marketer. It
