Anhydrous reactions are verytemperamental in that they do not work properly is water is present. It is very important to learnhow to handle highly reactive or sensitive materials. The techniques used to dry materials duringa reaction, including the usage of a Claisen adapter, drying tube, and Drierite were practiced.Thin-layer chromatography and melting point determination of the product were used to analyzethe triphenylmethanol created in the reaction.Experimental Procedure:The procedure was followed as described in Mayo’s manual pages275-282, along with the modifications listed in the Canvas document “Grignard Modifications
