Solvent extraction will be performed by etherextraction, and the product is dried using a Hirsch funnel. Acidification will also be carried out inthis experiment, wherein HCl is added dropwise to the aqueous layer in order to create the precipitate. IR and melting points analysis are performed on the final product. Experimental Procedure:The procedure was followed as described in Mayo’s manual on pages403-408, along with the modifications provided in the Canvas document Haloform Modifications.Reaction Scheme:Data and ResultsData and Results TableAcetophenoneAqueousNaOClSodium SulfiteBenzoic AcidFormulaNaOClNa2SO3C7H6O2MolecularWeight120.16120.6 122.12Amount (mg)429467Amount(μL/mL)90μL3.2 mLMmols51.771.549
