We’re skipping the War of 1812, and started up today with the period of time… Between the War of 1812 and the Civil War Around 1810, we being the “Second Great Awakening” First one was 1780-1800 This one begins, because people are moving westward and living in very rural areas,  meaning they have NO ENTERTAINMENT! Religious people seize this boredom and decide to have traveling ministers that go  around entertaining people and trying to convert them (Methodism actually started this  way) Thus, we have this Awakening, which is just people becoming more spiritual, more  concerned and inspired by religion Millennialism becomes a hot topic of discussion o Millennialism is the question, “When will Christ return?” o Congregationalists (pilgrims, puritans, those types that want no hierarchy, that  want the church’s power to be in local congregations) say: “Christ will come after  1000 years of social perfection, so let’s start working toward that!” o Baptists and Methodists say: “Christ will come after a huge, epic battle, where  blood will rain from the sky, and then Christ will rule for 1000 years!” o Both sides try to get people to believe their idea Ministers begin assigning dates to many events in Revelations o The world was supposed to end on the 23 rd  of March, 1844, and didn’t
