MN6003 Strategy: Choices and ChangeSummative Assessment 2: Individual Strategy Assignment Briefing (30% of module mark)IntroductionYour Individual Strategyassignment (Summative Assessment 2) is a case-based writtenreport of up to 1,500 words in total (excluding appendices).Your taskYour primary taskis to present an analysis of the Levis case (Case study is attached in thisassignment brief) by applying appropriate strategy models from the core module text book,‘Exploring Strategy’. These models should include, but must not be limited to, PESTLE, FiveForces, Strategic Grouping, Value Chain or Seven S, Porter’s generic strategies or Bowman’sstrategy clock. You must summarise the strategic position of Levis using SWOT analysis andthen make recommendations for the future direction of the company using your analysisand the Ansoff matrix. You should use tables or diagrams when you apply strategy models and populate them withdata from the case. However, it is not sufficient to just apply models and produce diagramsor tables; you must discuss the key findings from each model (there are lots of marksavailable for the quality of your discussion). The information in tables or diagrams or in theend reference section will not be included in the word count. Your report should use fullsentences and not bullet points (except in diagrams or tables). You should reference your work using the Harvard system and use relevant academicreading to develop and support your work (at least three different academic sources). Forthe purposes of the case analysis, you do not needto read beyond the case for informationabout Browns or the sports footwear industry. For the purposes of the case analysis, youshould stick to the case and limit your reading to strategy text books and academic journalarticles. You do not need to describe the models in detail e.g. you do not need to explainwhat Porter means by ‘buyer power’; it will be clear from your analysis that you understandthis. However, you should summarise each model in 2 or 3 lines in order to introduce it. It islikely that the primary task will take up around 1,200 words.Your secondary taskis related to employability. You should present a succinct discussion andanalysis of the strategy-related jobs which exist in the real-world Apparel industry in whichthe fictional Levis company operates, together with discussion and analysis of the skills thatsuch jobs require. For this aspect of the report only, you should research what type ofstrategy jobs exist in this sector. The research could include on-line activity such as reviewingrecruitment websites, or googling jobs in companies active in the sector, or engaging withmembers of the University Careers Service. It is likely that this aspect of the report will takeup around 300 words.
