Brittany Rae Salopek Microbiology Extra Credit 10-10-06 Splongoria The causative agent of the Splongoria epidemic disease spread has just been discovered. The sexually transmitted disease, Splongoria, has been rapidly infecting sexual partners, primarily between the ages of 16 to 35, at an outstanding rate for the past six months. Doctor Megan Ward determined that the pathogen, Human Heart Deterioration Virus, now known more commonly as HHDV, is the leading cause of this STD. Transmission of this disease involves the exchange of bodily fluid from one human to another. The most common form of this fluid passage involves sexual intercourse. If one partner already has the disease, they will transmit it to the other while having sex. Sometimes this is an unintentional act, in that the infected partner may not know that he or she is contaminated either because they too have just recently received the pathogen, or due to a lack of necessary STD tests.
