Assignment 1 Length: 3-5 pages Due: Tuesday February 27 th Write a three to five page essay that examines some aspect of what we have been reading that interests you. I am very open to most topics that you can come up with, so be creative and choose something you are enthusiastic about. Due to the large class size we will not be drafting so you should therefore be ready to turn in your final copy of the essay on the 27 th of February. Below are some general instructions for writing essays in case you have not done so for a while. The main thing to remember is that you should have a thesis that you go on to prove in the essay. • Introduction: Pose a question you intend to answer or make a thesis statement that gives some idea of the direction you intend to take in your essay. Indicate the aspects of the book you intend to deal with. • Paragraphing: In your plan you should identify very clearly the distinct points you intend to make and the specific parts of the text that you intend to examine in some detail.
