JPAN 2201 SHOJI Macbeth Japanese Style? Arriving late I missed most of Kato-Sensei’s explanation of the movie just catching the  last few sentences that it was a Japanese movie based on the Shakespeare play Macbeth. Now  I’m only vaguely familiar with the play Macbeth and have never read the script nor seen a movie  based on the tale, however I was able to get a better understanding of Macbeth through this  Japanese rendition.  The first real feeling I got from the film was when the two war heroes were riding through  the woods and got lost. It struck me as odd that two high ranking generals like themselves  would get lost in a forest that was supposed to protect their castle from enemies while serving  as a safe passage for its allies. It served to me thinking perhaps this is for shadowing the two  generals going off the correct path as if they were being led down a moral road they should not  follow. Soon after the evil fortune telling spirit appears to the two generals and foretells their  near futures. One general after hearing his fortune laughed it off as stupidity; however the other
