Unformatted text preview: 19/09/2007 15:08:00 TEST 1 Sociology and other sciences Explain and predict events in natural environment The social sciences o Human behavior is unpredictable o The idea is to examine human relationships to help make educated predictions The scientific method o Systematic observation and testing of your predictions, this is very easy in natural sciences, but much more complex in the social sciences due to the moral dilemma o We try to analyze humanity and the way we interact o Measuring human emotion is very complex o Hard to get the same amount of objectivity in social sciences than in natural sciences Political science- how people govern themselves Economics- studies the production and distribution of goods and services Anthropology o Study of develoing cultures and societies, meaning more historic o Look for artifacts that lend knowledge about a societys culture o Focus on authority and hierarchy Psychology o The study of individuals and the processes within the individual Sociology o Similarities to the other disciplines o Concerned with all of the previously discussed What is Sociology?
