Running Head The assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the 16 th president of the united states. How the attack was planned. John Wilkes Booth was from a family of renowned American actors. His brother Edwin was the leading actor countrywide, while John was an acclaimed performer. John was known for his charisma, looks, and athletic prowess in the act. They inherited this mantle from their father. John Booth grew up in Virginia and greatly advocated for the slave system's love for the confederacy. He hated abolitionists and Lincoln. In March 1965, he mobilized a group of conspirators in Washington DC and sought to abduct Lincoln as he returned from a play at Campbell Military Hospital though the plan and many other plans didn’t work then. However, on the morning of April 14, 1865, though distressed by the collapse of the confederacy, Booth learned that the president would attend a comedy performance, ' Our American Cousin’ that evening at Ford’s Theatre ( Williams and Burkhimer, 2016) .
