Maria Zavala Reyes 1.Introduction. Gender in sports has been a controversial issue ever since sports were invented. Jane English argues that sports are important for everyone and provide benefits equally, she presents several arguments related to sexual equality in athletics. English makes a distinction between basic benefits and scarce benefits. Basic benefits are those everyone has an equal right to. The benefits of participating are equally available to all participants. Scarce benefits cannot be equally available for all. Scarce benefits are those to which everyone does not have an equal right. According to english everyone should have an equal right to these benefits. In section 2, I will discuss each of the basic benefits and use concrete examples to discuss them. In section 3, i will connect equal access to both sex segregation and diversity. I will touch upon the context-relativity of physical advantages as well as how males bias affects our understanding of what counts as a sport. In section 4, I will be giving my views on Jane English arguments. And lastly i will be doing my work cited page. 2.The basic benefits.
