Jennifer Chinn TA: Jessica Stankiss Section: Mondays, 12pm Music 15, Concert Report 1 On Saturday, October 6, I attended the concert of The Phoenix Piano Quartet, including players Jonathan Swartz on the violin, Nancy Buck on the viola, Thomas Landschoot on the cello, and Laura Melton on the piano. The concert was held in the Music Hall of UC Santa Barbara, at 8 PM; the concert lasted two hours, and featured Western art music. They performed music written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Stephen Hartke, and Johannes Brahms. In the first half of the performance, The Phoenix Piano Quartet opened with the piece, Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, K. 493 , a polyphonic and consonant song. The combination of the various instruments playing together in this song was extremely melodious. Every melody was carried out with passion and feeling; I could tell exactly what emotion the composer was trying to convey at specific points during the song. However, not every song was as pleasant as the first; I thought that the second song,
