Assignment 2 Chapter 7- Increasing Behavior with Conditioned Reinforcement: (2) Explain what a conditioned reinforcer is. Give and explain two examples.Conditioned reinforcers are stimuli that were not originally reinforcing but have become reinforcers by being paired or associated with other reinforcers. These stimuli become reinforcersbecause of particular learning experiences and that is why they are also called secondary or learned reinforcers. Example: 1. Vacation place that we like to visit 2. Favorite food that we like to eat 3. Money we got on our pay cheque 4. Favorite jewelry that we like to wear (5) Describe a target behavior of yours that you would like to improve that might be amenable to a points program like Erin’s. What would you use as backup reinforcers for the points?A target behavior I would like to improve is the amount of time I spend everyday for study. To achieve my target behavior, I will set up a point menu which will rewarded withminutes when I complete my target. Example: If I spend 2 hours for study in one day I will achieve 5 minutes as reward, If I spend 3 hours for study in one day I will achieve 10 minutes as reward for backup reinforcer. My backup reinforcer will be spending time with friends on Sunday for amount of time I have earned throughout the week. (9) Give two examples of stimuli that are conditioned reinforcers but not tokens. Explain why they are conditioned reinforcers, and why they are not tokens.1. A mother who praises her child for good behavior is conditioned reinforcer but not token because praise cannot be used to cash in for something else or it is not given physically. 2. A bell sound of ice cream truck is conditioned reinforcer but not token because ringing of bell will attract the people to come outside of house but bell sound cannot be used to cash in for something else or it is not given physically. (12) Is a subway token a simple or generalized conditioned reinforcer? Explain your answer.A subway token is simple conditioned reinforcer because it is paired with single backup reinforcer and it is riding a subway. (13) Is a grocery store coupon a simple or generalized conditioned reinforcer? Explain your answer.
Assignment 2 It depends on what type of grocery coupon it is. If the coupon is for single use or it can be used for one particular product only than it should be consider as simple conditioned reinforcer. On other hand a grocery store coupon is consider as a generalized conditioned reinforcer becauseit is paired with more than one kind of backup reinforcer such as getting particular item on discounted price, shopping at same place again, saving money, buying expensive or favorite item with reduced amount, making customers happy, referring the place to others, positive experience at store and so on.
