Exposition 1. Characters: Son(narrator), the mom, Laetitia (the daughter), and Mel (the Duty-free store manager). 2. Setting: The main setting of the story is the US-Canada Border. Salt Lake City, Building near border, Convenience store. 3. Conflict: The conflict of identity. The narrator’s mother, an indigenous woman, refuses to identify as a Canadian. Raising Action The mother decides to take her family to Salt Lake City to visit her daughter. She bought two new tires. Put her blue dress with the green and yellow flower on it. Narrator also wear traditional dress because they do not want to blend with Americans. When the mother refuses to identify herself as a Canadian or American, the family is not allowed to cross the border. The narrator and his mother spend the next two days in between border, at the Duty-free shop in the parking lot, and spending the nights, sleeping in their car. Narrator’s mother shares multiple stories of the stars during the second night.
