Pat Flynn Intro Nutrition T/TH 9-10:15 McDonalds Diet Introduction Fast food has become more and more a staple of American society since it was first introduced. When asked what their favorite food is, many children will respond with a snack from the dollar menu at McDonalds, or a tasty treat at Dairy Queen. It’s not only children that have the knack for fast food however. Adults find themselves in line at the drive through on a work day quite often. This has to do with the convenience of fast food and the price as well. It only becomes more and more convenient with each visit, as the individual becomes a custom to particular orders, and sometimes even find themselves craving a fast food snack. Yet, many of the things found on fast food restaurant menus should not be considered a snack. Most of the meals which McDonalds, the leading fast food restaurant chain in the nation, serves are many times the recommended daily intake. However, I did a little research to find out if a healthy diet according to the “healthy heart guidelines” can be obtained from solely eating McDonalds. The heart healthy guidelines can be described as a daily diet of between 1200-1400 calories, with less than thirty percent of them coming from fat, and less than fifteen percent of them coming from saturated fat. It also requires no more than 300 milligrams of Cholesterol in the daily serving. I did my research and here is what I came up with. Results I found that one way to maintain a heart-healthy diet while eating at McDonald’s every day is by starting out the day with a balanced breakfast.
