Unformatted text preview: 8-30-02 Science Process Skills 1. Observation Ex) Rhizopus Stolonifer, Compare control Rhizopus Stolonifer with patient mold 2. Question 3. Hypotheses (induction- takes it from specific to general) an educated guess or generalization, Testable statement a. Null- Original Hypothesis. Two samples (control & patient) are the same b. Experimental (alternative)- proves null wrong (if it does) and states that the two sample are different. 4. Prediction (deduction- takes it from general to specific)- "If, Then" statement Ex) If the size of the sparangia of the Control Rhizopus matches with the patient Rhizopus, then the sample is contaminated. 5. Test Hypothesis a. Controls- temperature, median, and time. All conditions the same except variable. b. Control treatment- Control sample Ex) Control Rhizopus Stolonifer c. Experimental treatment-What is sampled. Ex) Patient's mold. d. Statistical analyses- rule out random error 6. Conclusion 7. Other tests- Systematic error ( error in experimental process) *Alternative 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Observation Analysis Hypothesis Prediction Experiment Results Interpretation Conclusion ...
