ALEXANDER THE GREAT AND THE HELLENISTIC AGE STUDY GUIDE – MID-TERM EXAM The mid-term examination will be given, as scheduled in your syllabus, on MONDAY, MARCH 10, 2008 during regular class time. In order to prepare for this exam you should do the following: - be able to discuss any word, phrase or name that has appeared on the study guides since the beginning of the semester – this includes the greater historical context that was given at the beginning of the course. - Know the assigned readings in Romm and Cartledge very well. Be aware that Romm is the editor of a selection of primary sources. Romm’s personal ideas are expressed in Italics between the selections – they should not be taken as being accepted by specialists in the field (such as Cartledge). That is, please be certain to focus on the information given by the primary sources in Romm, not on Romm’s introductions. - Be able to identify the following on a map: Thermaic Gulf; Amphipolis; Hellespont; Thrace; Thebes; Athens; Pella; Corinth; Thessaly; Persepolis; Troy; Babylon; Susa; Guagamela; Gedrosian Desert; Indus River; Granicus River; Issus -think about why
