Roads in a RainforestImportance of rainforestsThrough absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing the oxygen on which we rely for our survival. Theabsorption of this carbon dioxide helps stabilize the climate of the Earth as well. The rainforest is knownas the lungs of the Earth.By adding water to the atmosphere through the transpiration process thatcreates clouds, rainforests also help to maintain the world's water cycle. We get medicine, cashews, brazilnuts, and spices like vanilla and sugar, citrus, cassava, and avocado. We also get coffee, tea, and cocoafrom rainforests too. Some threats to the rainforest include the building of roads, trees for timber used inflooring, furniture, and other products that have been cut down by logging interests. In order to generateelectricity, power plants and other industries cut and burn trees. The paper industry converts enormoustracts of rain forest trees into pulp. Slash-and-burn techniques are used by the cattle industry to clearranch land.
