Zach Garcia Honors 111 Sappho If not Winter This was a very interesting book for many different reasons. I think that the discussion in our small class this week was one of the best. It was nice to have people to bounce your opinion off of who did not necessarily agree with you. I still think that for me personally the poems with only two or so words are nothing special for me. I think that taking a poem like that that had a meaning that was intended by the author and putting whatever you personally want to think that she was going to write about is not the point of writing it. If that were the case then why would other authors write at all. Why not just let come up with whatever you wanted it to say. I think that by taking her poems and thinking whatever you want to be there takes so much away from the poems. It makes it so they are no longer Sappho’s writing or poetry but then it becomes whoever is reading it, because every single person who does that is going to come up with a different version of the poem. That is not what writers in general
