The Role of Women inthe Victorian AgeWomen were seen as pure and clean.Because of this view, their bodies were seen as temples which should not be adorned with jewelry nor used for physical work or pleasure.A woman could not be the legal guardian of her own children or retain her own property after marriage.
Women’s role in the family was to supervise the household and support their husbands. No women could vote and none were important political figures, apart from the Queen herself, who did little to carry out reforms. Women had few opportunities in work. They either worked in textile factories or domestic service.
Women could not manage their own sexual activity or have any protection against  physical abuse.
Women as commanders of households were very common.
