Greg Scanlon Theology 101 Professor McCurry In the book of Genesis we see how God created us and how we are supposed to live “the good life .” In the book of Genesis there are many types of feelings towards what the good life may reflect . To live the good life is to be obedient in pursuing devotion, power, and freedom. First you must devote yourself to God which means to go to church, praise him, confess your sins, and do the right thing. Next you must obey the power God has granted you. This simply means we must realize the power God has given us is life and that we shall not use that power to defy God’s desires by sinning. And finally you must choose to use your freedoms for the well-being of others . To me these three ideas stick out the most in terms of what Genesis was trying to say on what the good life is . We have instructions to follow as humans to carry out his demands . Humans are dependent on God for everything that he does which is why we do worship him and show our love because it is that worship and love that keeps us on earth . We see what happens in the story of Adam and Eve when our true devotion to God is broken . “Have you eaten from the tree of which I commended you not to eat” God asked (Genesis 3:11) . And upon admitting they had gone against the

word of God they were punished . The woman would forever be in pain at childbirth and the man's agriculture would be forever cursed . Another story reflects how if one shows devotion to God than one will be rewarded . “Now the Lord said to Abraham, go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you, and I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing
