These are both true. b. Europeans wrote most of the accounts of Christian missionary work in Jamaica since most of African and mulatto preachers were illiterate. b.i. The Moravians were the first European missionaries in Jamaica in 1753. They came originally from Czechoslovakia but were forced to move to England. b.ii. Two British plantation owners invited several Moravian missionaries to come to Jamaica. c. The Methodists developed Jamaican missions in 1789 led by Thomas Coke. c.i. The majority of Methodists were free coloreds (mulattos). d. When the Church of England first sent clergyman to Jamaica in the 19 th century, they were instructed to only teach Europeans since Africans were not deemed worthy of the gospel. d.i.
