You are required to obtain information on a policing or law enforcement career: either one in state/local law enforcement or one in federal law enforcement. It is your responsibility to obtain information about the career you chose and create a product that includes: the functions, responsibilities, and jurisdictions of the role; which style of policing it most aligns with; what you can infer about the organization based on each style of policing; the recruitment and candidate vetting process for that career; and which theory of policing it best aligns with, with rationale. Career Choice: Investigative Analyst; working with the US Army as a government contractor through the program DCIPS: Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System. Describe the functions, responsibilities, and jurisdictional aspects of the career. Describe the daily functions: The investigative analyst’s daily functions include gathering, researching, and analyzing data from federal, state, local and public agencies. (Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance Jobs, 2020) Analysts develop reports on a variety of investigative intelligence information in support of ongoing investigations and provide administrative support and assistance to criminal investigators. (Investigative Analyst, 2020) Describe the responsibilities: The investigative analyst is responsible for the production and dissemination of investigative reports. (Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance Jobs, 2020) They work closely with investigators to develop criminal profile data and trend analysis. (Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance Jobs, 2020) In doing so, they are responsible for identifying trends and pinpointing indicator of illegal or unethical activity using background material as evidence. (Investigative Analyst, 2020) Investigative Analysts are relied upon to correlate large
amounts of information to assist investigations in showing intent and proving guilt; information that is used in prosecution of cases or to pursue civil or administrative judgements. (Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance Jobs, 2020) They formulate information, source search strategies and review data to help in identifying pattern and relationships across records; financial, criminal, public, and other information.
