Ryan Vetter CM114 2/1/05 The Following article is from Popular Science Magazine ( www.popsci.com ) in December of 2005 Title: Converting Tailpipes into Water Fountains by Jonathan Keats Summary: This article describes how Hamilton Sundstrand and LexCarb are coming together to create a new and improved way of fuel exhaust for the U.S. Army. Hamilton Sundstrand was the manufacturer of the life-systems for NASA. With Sundstrand’s and LexCarb’s new converter the vehicles will almost be as self-sustaining as the space stations, where soldier will be able to survive at least three days without supply-line support. These two companies just fitted two Humvees with 500 pounds worth of machinery to not only recovers water vapor naturally produced as a combustion waste product, but also makes it as clean as the water from the tap. One very crucial tactical advantage we would have over an entrenched enemy would be to make water out of engine exhaust. For the two vehicles, the cost is two million dollars and studies are still
