Steven Kaplan Colloquium Paper Violence is the exertion of force so as injure or abuse. Most societies try to prevent violence as much as they can but it hardly works. The colloquium that I attended last week was about violence throughout history in our society. This is a major issue since violence takes place every day. This colloquium helps you realize how much violence is going on in today’s world. I’m glad I went to his because I learned a few things while there. The main point that they were discussing was how much history has been a part of our history. Abraham sacrificing Isaac was a major event they talked about. Violence dates back to the beginning of time. They talked about the psychological effects on why violence happens. It may be a source of pride or a way to defend honor. Scientists disagree on whether violence is inherent in humans. Some men believe violence defines manhood. Drugs and alcohol can also play an important role in violence. No one knows how to fully stop violence from happening, all
