Memorandum To: Michael Laughter, Vice President of Operations From: Clinton Plaza Subject: Recommendation for Replacement of Quality Management Equipment Date: April 12, 2007 Replace Current Quality Management Equipment Over the past several weeks, the laboratory staff has experimented with the different equipment available to take SPICE parameters measurements of our main contracted BJT production line. After preliminary testing, which is discussed at length in Memorandum “Observations for Replacement Quality Equipment” dated March 28, 2007, only the Tektronix 370B Curve Tracer and National Instruments Data Acquisition Board were found as viable options. While both are relatively accurate (18% difference in accuracy), the National Instruments product is significantly cheaper, has a smaller footprint, and is easier to use than the Tektronix option. It is the laboratory staff’s recommendation that the National Instruments Data Acquisition Board be purchased for use by Quality Management for lot acceptance testing of our product lines. Introduce Problem Timeline Starting March 22, the laboratory staff was informed that the previous system for measuring SPICE parameters had been damaged. This system, which had been in place for seven years, was the main form of verification of working product, and was used by Quality Management to perform Lot Acceptance Testing (LATs). Without a working system in place, shipping had to be halted until lot testing could be performed, as set out in the contract with our client.
