1. Florida was a disputed state. The electoral votes given to Tilden were removed and were quested for legitimacy. Other states that went through a similar role were Louisiana, Oregon, and South Carolina. 2. The compromise of 1877 was an unwritten deal that settled the 1876 election and ended southern reconstruction. The southern democrats agreed to acknowledge Hayes as president if they met certain demands. These demands were to remove all federal troops from the former confederate states, to have at least one prominent southern democrat in Hayes’ cabinet, construction of another transcontinental railroad, and for the legislature to help industrialize the south. 3. The compromise of 1877 was quite corrupt in my honest opinion. It was secretly made and sold out freed blacks and ended reconstruction. 4. Both Hayes and Tilden were very similar.
