Objective: Objectives for this lab are to understand the reasons for hardness and tensile testing. To study the various methods of hardness testing and to observe and perform hardness testing on the Rockwell and Brinell hardness testing machines. Materials Required: Tinius Olsen Universal Testing Machine Tensile Specimen, Scribe, Vernier caliper, Marker Pen Brinell Hardness Testing Machine with accessories Rockwell Hardness Testing Machine with accessories EquipoTip Hardness Tester, Portable Brinell tester, Durometer tester (room 124 T2) Test specimens of steel, aluminum, tool steel and tungsten carbide Variety of testing equipment for various testing methods (room 123 T2) Discussion of Procedure: The procedure for this lab was based upon the different types of hardness tests and various other machines in the lab.
