PSCI 2306 - COMP Pretest 2 Essays and Writing Questions Overall, the Texas Lt. Governor has the most power within the State of Texas due to the multitude of positions the Texas Lt. Governor has compared to the Texas Governor. For example, our Texas Lt. Governor controls different statutes and engagements of the Texas Senate and House elected members down to judicial committees. The Texas Lt. Governor appeals more to the legislative side of government rather than to the public, which is another difference between both positions. Another difference between our Texas Lt. Governor and Texas governors are both are elected separately from one another and come from different political parties as well. Furthermore, after reading the Texas Constitution, Article 4, Section 16, our Texas Lt. Governor gains even more power when it comes to bills being passed within the Texas Senate because he can decide which questions and rules will be considered within different hearings. Plus, the most important power the Texas Lt Governor has is the Texas Governors left the state for any reason, the Lt. is in charge and if the Texas Governor passes away, the Lt. will be considered our Texas Governor. All of this is interesting. Also, I do feel partisan ideology plays a major role. I feel that the House and the Senate come with more independence than in the past. Plus, they both have more personal and political ideas that give way to the Texas Lt. Governor must stick to his pure agenda on the legislative side of the government to get anything accomplished. So, a lot of this partisan ideology does play a big role within the Texas Lt. Governors' political vision from a personal level and they can persuade their counterparts, not on a state level. Plus, since the Texas Lt. Governor and Texas Governor can come from different political parties, those partisan ideas could come to a head. The Texas Lt. Governor can have their own beliefs and personal agendas that they want to accomplish, but if they do not have the backing of the opposite party, this is where political differences can take place. Lastly, if the Texas Lt. Governor does not understand what his members are wanting on certain economic, moral and social issues, the Lt. Governor will have a political fight of personalities on his hands. Lastly, I do not think it should play a role because many of the issues that come a head in partisan ideology are the differences in members' personalities. But with that said, they
typically find a way to get over their emotions and/or feelings to get things accomplished. Since there are more Republican than Democrats members, the Republican manages the daily activities within the legislature, which Democrats debate on which disagreements Republican should win. Either way, I do not think partisan ideology should play a role in politics, especially in the Texas government, but that happens within political parties. One party tends to be stronger than the other and, in this case, the Republican party is a strong one. And for that, there are always going to be growing issues among both parties, which
