Leslie Walicki SOC 180 January 8th 2021 1. Define primary verses secondary sources. Provide three examples of each type and explain how they contribute to identity development. Primary socialization is something that is innate and is what you are born with. (Family, gender, race) You are born into your family and can’t change that because it is biological, You are either born male or female and although you can do a lot to change that now, it wasn’t something that was so easily changed a while back. Race has to do with your genetics and can’t be changed either. Secondary socialization is something that is a choice or learned. (School, work, religion) For all three of these examples you have a choice. You can choose where you go to school and work and what type of religion you want to be a part of. 2. Explain how you see more clearly when you understand socialization forces. Socialization forces are intertwined with each other. For example primary and secondary forces can affect each other.
