Dance 35 Monday January 7 th Function is the purpose the dance serves within a culture. Almost all pre-industrial revolution (traditional, 1800’s, 19 th century) dances served religious purposes. Dance is transcendental; it takes you out of this world. Other functions are political, educational, recreational, and aesthetic.

Content is what you felt (emotions) and what the performers were feeling. It is what the work of art is about. Content is always related to form. Content is different for everyone....
