Kelly 1 Caroline Kelly Mrs. Champagne English 102 April 18, 2013 Gay Marriage in the United States Gay marriage in the United States has been—and continues to be—an extremely controversial topic from which much dispute has been borne. Most individuals have their own opinion on the situation: either they strongly agree with it, or strongly disagree with it. Then there are the individuals who remain neutral and show no bias, one way or the other. Some base their opinion off of personal beliefs while others decide how they feel based off the law and government. Even though one’s personal beliefs matter greatly in a situation such as this, there is a bigger picture than the simple dogma of societal norms. Should individual states be able to legalize gay marriage even though it is unconstitutional? Should government have the ability to allow or deny any marriage or civil union, regardless of the gender involved? There are many solutions to this debated problem.
