Antonio Pigafetta's account is one of the best descriptions of the Philippines that we have during the early 16th century. Antonio Pigafetta assisted Magellan on the voyage. His account on Magellan's expedition is essential since it is a primary source. His account serves not only as a source of knowledge on the voyage itself; but also provides an early western overview of the people and languages of the Philippines. Furthermore, out of the approximately 270 men who had set off with Magellan, Pigafetta was one of the 18 men who had returned to Spain.
